The international competition for the best concept and architectonic solution of the supermarket SKY in the Baltic states and Russia organized by the Latvia Association of Architects has ended with a win of “Vincents Arhitekti”. A very large amount of works participated in the competition (27 applications were qualified for review) from a total of 12 countries – the Baltic states , Scandinavia, Russia, Italy, Portugal, etc.

The international jury noted that the tender of draft sketches of “Vincents” differed from other tenders with a clear, well-considered and rational concept which is easily transformable and adjustable for construction in other building areas.

The building architecture in the draft sketches of “Vincents” has been developed by emphasizing the functionality and practical approach of the design in combination with the quality and aesthetics corresponding to the age. The basis of the structural solution, as well as architectonic image is rhythm and regularity with manifest themselves in the 8x8m step by forming a convenient adjustable and easily perceptible interior. This solution is reflected in the facade where the large facade plane is divided in the respective step by making it more expressive, as well as providing a possibility to place posters here corresponding to the concept of the shop which present the diversity offered in the shop - cookery, degustations, dainties, etc.

Metal finish dominates in the common building volume, while the representative section of the facade turned towards the motorway is expressed as a light and transparent glass facade. The entrance facade of the building is made in contrast to the rest rectangular volume as a semicircle turned towards the motorway in order to attract the attention of visitors. The vertical lamellas of the facade provides a graphic division and dynamics by creating an exclusive image.
